editing
My standard editorial letter combined with in-depth suggestions throughout every page of a manuscript go beyond the usual high-level feedback and have been called mini workshops on the craft of writing. I'm an experienced developmental editor, working on fiction manuscripts from young adult to adult across a variety of genres. I provide thorough content and structural edits that cover every aspect of novel writing.
My goal as your developmental editor is to collaborate with you in finding your manuscript’s voice and bringing your characters to life. I believe it’s important for writers to come through the editing process with actionable goals they can accomplish.
In addition to developmental editing, which focuses on the big picture, I also offer line editing, which looks at your manuscript on a sentence-by-sentence level.

In addition to developmental editing, which focuses on the big picture, I also offer line editing, which looks at your manuscript on a sentence-by-sentence level.
My developmental edit:
- Provides in-depth analysis and evaluation of plot, character, dialogue, and setting in a editorial letter. It also examines whether sub-plots are well integrated and examines content in detail.
- Includes notes and/or revisions directly in the manuscript. This includes letting authors know what needs work and why, as well as positive encouragement about what's working well.
- Does not substitute for copyediting or proofreading.
- Takes 4-6 weeks, depending on the queue or complexity of manuscript.
My line edit:
- Provides line by line edits of your manuscript with special attention to syntax, flow, redundancy, clarity, wordiness and overuse of adverbs or passive voice.
- Includes notes and/or revisions directly in the manuscript. This may include reasons for edits and positive words of encouragement about what's working well.
- Does not include developmental edits, spelling, punctuation or grammar.
- Takes 3-5 weeks, depending on the queue or skill level of writing.
